The 3rd Department of the Faculty of Dental Medicine was founded in 2011 when the existing departments and disciplines were reorganised. Prof. univ. Dr. Emanuel Bratu was elected as department director until 2016. From 2016 until now, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Luminita Nica is coordinating the activity of the department as director.
There are 4 clinical disciplines in the structure of the department:
- Discipline of Restorative Dentistry and Endodontics – Head of Discipline Assoc. Prof. Dr. Luminiţa Nica
- Discipline of Prosthodontics – Head of discipline Prof. Dr. Anca Jivănescu
- Discipline of Occlusiology – Head of discipline Assoc. Prof. Dr. Corina Mărcăuţeanu
- Discipline of Prosthetic Rehabilitation and Implants – Head of Discipline Prof. Dr. Emanuel Bratu
Within the 3rd department, there are 28 teaching members coordinating the activity of the students of the 3rd-6th year of the Faculty of Dental Medicine, from both Romanian and English sections, and also from the Faculty of Dental Technique and Dental Hygiene. Under their close supervision and coordination, the Dental Medicine students are initially trained in the departments’ modern phantom laboratory, then they start to perform clinical maneuvers on patients, in order to fulfill the minimum practical and clinical requirements of each discipline and to gain their clinical abilities. Each semester, hundreds of patients are treated within the disciplines of Restorative Dentistry, Endodontics and Prosthodontics in accordance with the current standards and protocols of European and international curriculas for each specialty.
Also, dozens of postgraduate students are anually trained theoretically and clinically in the specialties of Endodontics and Prosthodontics.
Within the department, faculty, undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral students are involved in an intense research activity in the TADERP Research Center (Center of Advanced and Digital and Technologies in Endodontics, Restorative Dentistry and Prosthodontics), coordinated by Director Prof. Dr. Anca Jivănescu.
