Orthodontics I

The disciplines of  Pedodontics and Orthodontics were established in the academic year 1963-1964, under the name of pediatric dentistry, endorsed by Prof. univ. Dr. I. Gall (Bucharest). In the following period (1964-1998), the clinic was run by Prof. univ. Dr. Ovid Grivu. The management of the clinic was later taken over by Prof. univ. Dr. Elisabeta Bratu, Prof. univ. dr. Florica Glăvan and Assoc. Dr. Eleonora Schiller.

Until 1971, the headquarters of the discipline was located on the third floor of the Polyclinic no. 3, and then, on Lenau street, no. 10. Since January 2002, we have been operating in the current headquarters, located on the first floor of the building of the Faculty of Dentistry. In 2014, by the decision of the UMFT Senate, the separation of the Orthodontic Discipline from the Pedodontics Discipline took place. In the period 2014-2019, the management of the discipline was ensured by Mrs. Conf. Univ. Dr. Eleonora Schiller. Within our discipline, didactic and clinical activity is carried out with the students of the Faculty of Dentistry, the long and short duration programs, as well as with the resident doctors from the specialty of orthodontics and dento-facial orthopedics and from the related specialties.

The teachers of the discipline are orthodontists and primary care physicians, with extensive training in the field of orthodontics, strengthened by participation in national and international courses and conferences.

Over the years, members of our discipline have participated in research teams, written books, numerous articles in impact journals, patents, and won awards at numerous international conferences.

Students interested in research and in-depth research in the field of orthodontics are guided by teachers to actively participate in various courses or conferences on orthodontics, to follow the residency in this field or to collaborate in the field of scientific research with teachers.

Within our discipline, the post-university training of an important number of Romanian and foreign residents is carried out, representing a center of tradition in the university and post-university orthodontic training. Starting with 2020, in our discipline it will be possible to prepare doctoral students in dentistry, with orthodontic research topics.

Research directions: orthodontic biomechanics, interdisciplinarity in orthodontics, digital orthodontic technologies, skeletal anchoring with mini-implants, orthodontic treatment in adults.

• Orthodontics – for 5th and 6th year students of the Faculty of Dentistry, Romanian and English departments
• Orthodontic appliances technology – for third year students of Dental Technique
• Orthodontics – for third year students of Dental Technique

Orthodontic and dento-facial orthopedics courses – for Romanian and foreign residents

• Behavioral management in dentistry – for fourth year students, Romanian and English sections

• Malpractice in dentistry – for fourth year students, Romanian and English sections
