Obstetrics-Gynecology III

The University Clinic Obstetrics-Gynecology III is part of the Department XII—Obstetrics-Gynecology of the Victor Babes University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Timisoara. The discipline members carry out their clinical university activities within the Clinical Sections of Obstetrics-Gynecology I and II of the Emergency County Clinical Hospital “Pius Brinzeu” Timisoara, and the IV Obstetrics-Gynecology Clinic, of the Timisoara Municipal Emergency Clinical Hospital.

Within the Clinic, university education activities with students and post-university education activities within master’s cycles, postgraduate training courses for obtaining competencies, and training of young doctoral students are carried out.

The didactic activity takes place by the state’s functional structure. The courses occur in the Amphitheater Prof. Dr Ioan Munteanu – a gynaecologist. Within the Discipline, didactic activity is carried out with:

• 6th-year students of the Faculty of Medicine, Specialization Medicine (in Romanian language), Obstetrics-Gynecology Discipline
• 6th-year students of the Faculty of Medicine, Specialization Medicine (in English language), Obstetrics-Gynecology Discipline
• 4th-year students of the Faculty of Medicine, Specialization Medicine (in the Romanian language), Sexology Discipline
• 4th-year students of the Faculty of Medicine, Specialization Medicine (in English and French languages), Sexology Discipline
• 3rd and 4th-year students of the Faculty of Medicine, General Medical Assistance Specialization, Obstetrics-Gynecology Discipline, and Sterility and Contraception Discipline respectively
• 3rd-year students of the Faculty of Medicine, General Medical Assistance Specialization – Lugoj, Obstetrics/Gynecology/Sterility and Contraception Discipline, and Nursing in Obstetrics/Gynecology Discipline
• 3rd-year students of the Faculty of Dental Medicine (in Romanian language), Dental Medicine Specialization, Surgery, General Anesthesiology, and Obstetrics-Gynecology Discipline
• 3rd-year students of the Faculty of Dental Medicine (in English language), Dental Medicine Specialization, Surgery, General Anesthesiology, and Obstetrics-Gynecology Discipline
• Obstetrics-Gynecology residents in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th years in Obstetrics-Gynecology Internship, General Surgery residents in the 4th year in Gynecological Surgery Internship
• Specialist doctors/residents enrolled in postgraduate courses in Obstetric and Gynecologic Ultrasound modules I and II, Laparoscopic Surgery in Gynecology modules I and II, Hysteroscopy – organized for obtaining certificates in the fields.
• Graduates of courses for taking exams to obtain certificates
• Graduates of the residency cycle for obtaining the title of specialist doctor
• Specialist doctors for obtaining the title of primary doctor
• Master’s students in the Master’s degree programs in Medicine: Clinical and Community Nutrition, Discipline Nutrition in Pregnancy and Lactation, Legal Responsibility of Medical Staff, Discipline Training-Coaching-Mentoring in Medical Services, and Entrepreneurship in the Medical Field.
• Doctoral students – within the Discipline, there are four doctoral coordinators: Prof. Dr. Craina Marius (since 2017), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bernad Elena (since 2018), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Citu Cosmin (since 2022), and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gluhovschi Adrian (since 2023).

The scientific activity consists of participating in research projects, attending national and international conferences/congresses, publishing research results in national journals and journals recognized abroad, reviewing at conferences and journals, evaluating project competitions, and publishing books in national and international publishing houses. Discipline members have organized national/international conferences over the years.

Within the Discipline, a research centre operates – the Laparoscopy Center, Laparoscopic Surgery, In Vitro Fertilization, and Embryo Transfer Center, registered on the European Research Infrastructure System – EERTIS platform. Research directions/opportunities include:

• Investigation and treatment of cases of sterility/infertility
• Minimally invasive therapies in gynaecology – laparoscopy and hysteroscopy
• Screening and diagnosis of congenital fetal malformations
• Management of pregnancies at high-risk
• Study of factors involved in fetal distress, premature birth, and pregnancies at high risk associated with various pathologies and phenomena occurring in these cases to improve perinatal indicators
