General presentation

The University Cardiology Clinic I of the County Emergency Hospital of Timisoara has been functional since 1974 and received the status of specialized cardiology clinic in 1994. The staff members are recognized for their expertise and advanced experience in the two main areas of activity: clinical practice and teaching department, which is currently being managed by Prof. Univ. Dr. Viviana Mihaela Ivan.

The clinic is equipped with facilities that allow for highly accurate non-invasive diagnosis in cardiology. Specialized laboratories (echocardiography, vascular Doppler, Holter-ECG, exercise stress test, Holter blood pressure, arterial stiffness measurement) provide patient care in accordance with current European standards and guidelines. Also, the electrophysiology laboratory continues the pacemaker implantation procedure.

The teaching activity is aimed at IV-year General Medicine students, with the teachers constantly committed to modernizing teaching methods and organizing weekly presentations of clinical cases. Over the years, proprietary courses have been developed, and the results obtained by students and residents, reflected by their top rankings in national competitions, demonstrate the quality of the preparation provided.

The university clinical staff participate in research projects, including angiology and telemedicine, and contribute to clinical trials relevant to cardiology. The residents’ preparation in cardiology and other specialties is also supported by hands-on activities, on-call experiences and presentations of clinical cases.

Postgraduate courses on non-invasive cardiologic explorations and cardiologic emergencies were highly regarded by many graduates, and thematic symposia completed the never‑ending process of learning. Courses in vascular ultrasound competencies and programs dedicated to the nurses were also held.

Clinical research focuses on topics relevant in our present times, such as hypertension, echocardiography, heart failure and vascular pathology. The results of this research are presented at national and international scientific conferences or published in specialized journals.

With its 45 beds, the Cardiology Clinic provides care for more than 2,000 patients a year and handles cardiology emergencies over a large area. The activity is also carried out in the Coronary Intensive Care Unit and through interdisciplinary consultations in various wards of the hospital and in outpatient clinics.
