Pharmacology-Pharmacotherapy

The discipline of Pharmacology-Pharmacotherapy of the Faculty of Pharmacy of Timişoara was established on October 1, 2000, at the same time with the final accreditation of this faculty.

The coverage with the teaching staff was done at the beginning by transferring a part of the existing teaching staff to the Pharmacology Discipline of the Faculty of General Medicine of our university, and later by the own training of the teaching staff recruited through competition.

Since its establishment until 2020, this discipline has been managed by Prof. univ. Dr. Carmen Cristescu. From September 2021, the head of the discipline becomes Mrs. Associate Professor Dr. Mirela Voicu. Currently, starting from October 2022, the head of the discipline becomes Mrs. Prof. Codruța Soica PhD.

The didactic activity at the Discipline of Pharmacology-Pharmacotherapy takes place with the students of the third and fourth year, during three semesters and has as major objective the harmonious combination of the theoretical knowledge with the requirements of the pharmaceutical practice.

In this context, the objectives of the pharmacology education within the Faculty of Pharmacy are focused on the one hand on the acquisition of indispensable knowledge about  the characteristics of the main classes of drugs (such as: pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic properties, therapeutic uses, contraindications, precautions and rules related to administration) and on the other hand, on acquiring a pharmacological reasoning, which is absolutely necessary for the future practitioner to understand the advantages, but also the inherent risks of a medical prescription.

Scientific research is a permanent preoccupation of the team of this discipline. The researched topics are included in two major directions of pharmacological research: clinical research and evaluative research. They have been materialized into a series of scientific papers published in prestigious national and foreign journals.
